Overview

My project plan is to use horses as tools for kids, with and without disabilities, to teach them how to ride by giving them access to opportunities they might not normally have. Growing up I have been around horses my whole life and have had the opportunities to be blessed in many ways from those experience. During this project I hope to give kids access to riding horses and new experiences.

Project Details

My purpose of this project is not only to learn myself but teach the people around me. Give back to the community the knowledge I have acquired throughout my lifetime of experiences. Horses have made huge impacts on my life and taught me lessons I could never have learned any other way. Having the abilities to give some of those same experiences back to people I teach is my larger purpose.  Educating kids on the techniques to ride and proper manners to be around horses is my project goal. Even if this is the only time they are around horses, knowledge is power. Experiences in areas that we do not commonly encounter is something that happens all the time and giving someone knowledge that might help them or someone else later in life is the goal I have for this project. I will have a lesson once a day for two hours Monday through Friday approximately a month to complete the whole project. Time of days will vary depending on participant’s schedule.

Start date: January 1st

End date: January 31st

Larger Purpose:

My purpose of this project is not only to learn myself but teach the people around me. Give back to the community the knowledge I have acquired throughout my lifetime of experiences. Horses have made huge impacts on my life and taught me lessons I could never have learned any other way. Having the abilities to give some of those same experiences back to people I teach is my larger purpose.

Project Goal:

Educating kids on the techniques to ride and proper manners to be around horses is my project goal. Even if this is the only time they are around horses, knowledge is power. Experiences in areas that we do not commonly encounter is something that happens all the time and giving someone knowledge that might help them or someone else later in life is the goal I have for this project.

Outcomes:

1. I hope to educate children on safe ways to be around and ride horses. Horses are inherently dangerous. Giving kids proper knowledge on prevention of dangerous situations they can encounter is one of my goals.

2. I want to educate the participants on the western way of life and why horses and agricultural play an important role in society. Agricultural is part of the world's history and some people do not know some aspects, such as ranching and horses, of it. I hope to give more knowledge on the subjects.

3. I hope to grow in leadership and management skills. Being able to organize and follow through a project is a major goal I hope to obtain from this project.

About me

I am 22 years old and I grew up in Logan Utah. I have been riding before I could walk and competing in rodeo since my freshman year in high school. I love to educate people on the western way of life and giving back knowledge I have learned from all the experiences I have been fortunate enough to have. I am a student at Southern Utah University. This is my last year of college. I will be graduating in the spring with a bachelors degree in Sociology and a minor in family services. I hope to attend graduate school to become a Occupational therapist.
